General and Family Dentistry in Brentwood, TN
General dentistry is the everyday care that keeps your teeth and gums healthy: checkups, cleanings, X-rays, fillings and treatment for problems like decay, gum disease and tooth pain. Family dentistry means one office can care for everyone in your household, so your records, history and treatment plans stay in one place. Dr. Holmes and our team care for patients of all ages.
Preventive dentistry is the part of general care that stops problems before they start. Regular exams and cleanings remove plaque and tartar, catch cavities while they are small and include an oral cancer screening. Finding a problem early usually means a simpler, more comfortable fix.
Dr. Holmes brings more than 30 years of experience to every visit. Our office uses low radiation digital X-rays and tooth colored fillings, and if something needs attention, you get a clear treatment plan before any work begins.

Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screening includes a careful examination of the entire oral cavity for any kind of abnormal cell growth. This is done by a professional dentist who will check the lips, gum tissue, inside lining of the check, tongue, the palate, throat and the tonsils for any abnormality. Sometimes, a visual examination alone is not enough to identify the symptoms of oral cancer. Therefore, we may suggest a few tests to be sure that there is no danger of oral cancer. The common tests for oral cancer screening are blue dye test and dental examination with light.
Oral screening process: why it is important
Cancer of the mouth is a disease that can be treated successfully if detected early. Regular dental checkups are therefore very essential. Oral screening for cancer is reasonably priced and is a painless and simple examination
In case of a wound or a cyst of any kind in the mouth, a simple biopsy can detect the presence of abnormal cells in the wound. In 90% of cases, if followed by proper treatment, oral cancer is generally curable.
Don't delay! You should get Oral Cancer screenings periodically and early detection is he key. Call us today to schedule your exam.
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are used to treat teeth that are damaged due to tooth decay. You could have tooth decay if you are experiencing symptoms such as extreme sensitivity to cold and hot food and drinks, constant toothache, jaw pain and/or bad breath. Dental fillings help eliminate sensitivity and pain in the tooth and prevent any further damage from taking place. A simple check-up can determine whether your teeth need repair and if you need dental fillings. If necessary, an x-ray is taken to find out the extent of the damage.
Tooth Colored Fillings
We are pleased to provide our patients with tooth colored fillings made from either porcelain or composite resins. They are the same color as your teeth! This makes them look much more natural in your mouth and also means that your mouth will remain "mercury-FREE".

Custom Fitted Mouth Guards
A custom fitted mouth guard protects your teeth, jaw, gums, lips and tongue during sports and other physical activity. Our office makes form fitting mouth guards for patients of all ages. Because the guard is shaped to your teeth, it stays in place and cushions the hits that can break teeth or injure the jaw, and it fits far better than a store bought guard. You can also pick from different colors and designs.

Snore Guards (Stop Snoring)
A snore guard is a small custom fitted appliance you wear only while you sleep. It keeps your jaw and tongue from dropping back into your throat, which keeps your airway open and greatly reduces snoring. Fitting is quick and painless. Snoring can also be a sign of sleep apnea, so tell Dr. Holmes if you or your partner notice it.
Periodontal Therapy
Swollen, red, tender or bleeding gums can be signs of periodontal (gum) disease. Gum disease is caused by bacteria in plaque and tartar, and without treatment it can lead to receding gums, bone loss and tooth loss. Our office treats gum disease with scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) and ongoing periodontal maintenance to help keep your gums healthy.

Root Canals
A root canal repairs and saves a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. Dr. Holmes numbs the tooth, removes the infected nerve and pulp, cleans and seals the canals, then places a permanent filling on top. Signs you may need one include a severe toothache, strong sensitivity to hot and cold, tender or swollen gums and a discolored tooth. If you feel anxious, sedation is available.

We offer same day appointments whenever possible, with a focused exam and X-ray of the area, followed by a treatment plan to fix the problem.
