TMJ / TMD is a chronic, degenerative disorder that requires immediate and long-term treatment. TMJ / TMD can be caused by various factors, including trauma to the jaw or TMJ. Arthritis, bruxism (teeth grinding), or neck problems could all be blamed.
Surgery is not a first-line treatment and should only be considered if all other, more conservative options have failed to relieve and manage your symptoms.
Non-surgical methods are intended to relieve pressure on the TMJ / TMD, reduce pain, and allow you to resume normal chewing, talking, yawning, and swallowing activities.
ULF-TENS (Ultra Low-Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation), a method for relaxing your muscles with gentle massage, is the first step toward symptom reduction. ULF-TENS also helps alleviate pain by stimulating the production of endorphins, a natural analgesic. We then use a combination of modern neuromuscular procedures to gently and safely return your bite to its ideal position. Finally, we will discuss several ways to manage your TMJ / TMD in the long term for joint health and pain relief.
